Home maintenance encompasses a lot of work. There are those maintenance tasks that you may have to perform on a regular basis and those that you only need to take care of once in awhile. Various parts of the home may need to maintained or restored such as the lighting, plumbing, roofing, flooring, cabinetry, guttering, countertops and many others. Here are some tips on home inspection process to the best standards.

Faucets

The main damage that you will grapple with are the leaks and these mainly occur when the washers are worn out. These washers are made of a rubber material so they may not be so durable. Inspect them and replace them on a regular basis when you see an issue with your faucets. Turn off the main water supply entirely when making a replacement to avoid creating a mess.

Water Heater

We all want that hot rejuvenating bath when we need to. Water heaters are fairly durable unless they have been in place for quite some time. Maintain the electrical wiring and the insulation on a regular basis so as to increase the longevity of the hot water heaters and reduce further damages in the installation. They are generally costly to replace so a good maintenance regime should save you money over the long term.  

Plumbing

Proper plumbing is required in order to guarantee a smooth flow of water. Some of the main plumbing issues that you need to maintain on a regular basis include the following.

  • Remove fat or oil clogging
  • Drain cleaning
  • Inspecting toilets for any signs of leaks and repairing where necessary
  • Clearing blocked drains etc

The Air Conditioning

Being a mechanical installation in your home, the air conditioning system must be maintained on a regular basis to ensure it is in perfect working order. Most homeowners generally overlook air conditioning systems during their normal maintenance routine but they are just as important.

Inspect the condensation hoses to ensure that water is flowing smoothly. The screen around the air conditioner should also be kept clean at all times so as to guarantee a smooth air flow.

Paint

Fortunately, paint is one of those simpler maintenance tasks and you can easily notice when the paint is wearing out. Once in awhile, give your home a facelift by painting both the interior and the exterior of the house.

Guttering

Clean the guttering of your house to clear away the debris, dust and particles that might block the guttering and lead to a rot in the underlying roofing structure that is usually made of wood. You can do this easily with the good old water hose. This is one of the simpler home inspection report that you can actually do on your own.

Other quick fixes when it comes to home maintenance

  • Check the garage door on a regular basis to ensure that it reverses easily.
  • The furnace filters should be replaced regularly as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Inspect and clean the fireplace chimney at least annually.
  • If you have smoke detectors, ensure that you replace the batteries at least annually.
  • Check the roofing periodically for any sign of damage and where need be, make replacements.

Some of the basic maintenance jobs don’t cost a lot of money and require only an initiative. However, once in a while, you may need to hire qualified building inspectors for a more comprehensive maintenance work.
